Gamla Uppsala

Gamla Uppsala is an old zone of Uppsala where the viking mounds and the Viking Museum is located. The museum is right next to the viking mounds, in fact, it has a gigantic glass that allows you to see them.

In the museum you can find information, items and photos from the Viking age. You can also see some archaeological excavations, the victims from the viking age, why where those victims so important for them and also some stories from the swedish Yngling dynasty .

Frigg weaving clouds

One of the things that I liked best was all the information it had about their gods. Some of them are very well known, such as Odin, the god of wisdom, war and death, or Thor, his son, god of the lightning, but in this museum you get offered the chance of finding out more about other gods, like Baldr, Odin's second son, personification of goodnes, light and beauty, or Frigg, Odin's wife, sky goddess, fertility, love and marriage. It's said that she's the one that weaves the clouds.

The Royal Mounds
(on the top of the first one)

It's also said that the three big mounds that you can find just in front of the museum, called the Three Royal Moulds, according to the old mythology and folklore, it would be the three gods, Thor, Odin and Freyr. They're dated to the fifth and sixth century, and it's one of the oldest swedish national symbols.
